BAM Observes National Caribbean-American Heritage Month

June is National Caribbean-American Heritage Month, and Build America Mutual and our associates are taking the opportunity to celebrate the legacy and essential contributions of our Caribbean American colleagues, counterparties, and members. Throughout our history, Caribbean Americans have brought vibrant cultures, languages, traditions, and values that strengthen our country and add new chapters to our common story.  At BAM, we celebrate and embrace the unique contributions made by people of all cultures, and encourage all employees to take time this month to reflect on the history and achievements of Caribbean Americans who have championed and helped finance essential public infrastructure across the nation.

Despite the powerful legacy of achievement of Caribbean Americans, many members of the Caribbean-American community continue to face systemic barriers to equity, opportunity, and justice.  Systemic racism has uniquely impacted Black and Latino immigrant communities, including Caribbean Americans, leading to disparities in health care, education, housing, criminal justice, and economic opportunity. We strive to create a workplace where every employee feels safe, valued, and empowered to be their authentic self and embrace the culture of their heritage.

We continue to work to increase the cultural competency of our team, and share new resources to support our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
